SPC to observe Health Information Professionals Week April 18 – 22

Students and faculty in the St. Philip’s College (SPC) Health Information Technology program will observe Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week on April 18-22 in conjunction with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The theme this year is Health Information is Human Information.

SPC will host ‘HIT Connect', an educational session featuring Alamo Area HIMA President-Elect, Cecario Guerrero, on April 20, 2022, at 6:00 pm via Zoom. Mr. Guerrero holds the position of Director of Health Information Management (HIM) Operations and Coding for LifePoint Health and is an adjunct faculty for the St. Philip’s College Health Information Technology Program. He is a graduate of St. Philip’s College, Health Information Technology Program with his Associate's, obtained a Bachelor’s in Health Information Management from Texas State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from West Texas A&M University. The event will feature door prizes and a Kahoot session.

SPC’s Health Information Technology Program was recently ranked #4 in the nation by Intelligent.com for having one of the Best Registered Health Information Technician degree programs in 2022. The program was also named “Best in the South.” There are currently three faculty members who hold elected positions within HIMA: Beatrice Avila is Texas HIMA Board Education Committee Chair; Patricia Lamson is Texas HIMA Board Marketing Chair; Cecario Guerrero is Alamo HIMA Board President-Elect. All three faculty members are St. Philip’s College alumni.
